Kindergarten

The Kindergarten program is the final year of the Early Childhood Program. In Kindergarten, we build upon the skills used in the Preschool program and prepare students for Lower Elementary school.

Each child further develops focus, motivation, persistence, and discipline through their work. In this framework of order, the child grows at their own pace and rhythm.

Lower Elementary

The Lower Elementary program is designed to spark the imagination and to address the child's need to interact with others for children in grades 1-3. It offers students the opportunity to learn and develop skills that will be used throughout their lifetime; designed to develop critical thinking, foster self-management, and cultivate independence.

Ultimately, children progress from a variety of concrete experiences and move to an abstract awareness that fosters independence and confidence.

Upper Elementary

The Upper Elementary program is composed of students in grades 4-6. Moving towards adolescence, students of this age group are transitioning to more abstract thinking, relying heavily on resource materials to build upon the work begun in Lower Elementary. They have new ownership of a reasoning mind, full of capacities and enthusiasm for exploring, theorizing, planning, and creating.  Emphasis is placed on the integration of subjects including math, geometry, language, history, geography, and biology.

"Nurturing curiosity, inspiring confidence and promoting the joys of learning about the world are daily occurrences at SNHMA."

To complement the innate curiosity, creativity and intelligence of children, the Montessori curriculum is highly enriched and challenging to cultivate human potential, nurture spontaneous curiosity, and inspire a sense of wonder.

In addition to the strong academic core, your child will develop their passion in technology, science, visual and performing arts, language and physical education. They will learn at their own pace, with an educational plan tailored perfectly to them.

Infant

(Ages 3 months - 24 months)

Our peaceful and loving environments have developmentally appropriate materials and activities that support the child through each stage of infant growth. We aid the child as they develop hand-eye coordination, grasping skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, language and coordination of their body through movement.

Toddler

(Ages 24 months - 36 months)

The Montessori Toddler environment is carefully prepared to aid the toddler in achieving independence. We strive in the Toddler environment to encourage social interaction with other children, enhance the development of language and practical life skills, and music and movement activities.

Early Childhood

(Ages 3-5 years)

The preschool and pre-kindergarten curriculum focuses on practical skills, sensorial materials, language development, math, geography, history, and science.

We aim to foster independence, self-control, self-confidence, and self-esteem.

Subject Areas at SNHMA

Science- At the very start, our students learn about science through outdoor exploration. The curriculum becomes more formalized in Preschool and Kindergarten where students continue biology exploration and begin learning about physical science through hands-on experiments. In Elementary School, our students continue their science exploration in the classroom, but also attend field trips to local small businesses and on the conservation land adjacent to the school.

Math- Math begins with our Toddlers. These students learn numbers, quantities and symbols, and the meaning of zero with hands-on tools. These math skills are further refined as students enter the Early Childhood program. By the time students enter Elementary School they have begun to master math facts and operations and begin understanding concrete and abstract reasoning. By the end of their elementary years, students begin to become familiarized with Abstraction math.

Literacy- Literacy and language arts are an integral part of our curriculum and we have a team of certified specialists who design and support this curriculum. We begin developing these skills in our infant classroom with non-verbal language and sign language education and this continues into our Early Childhood program where we encourage social language skills. The Elementary Literacy program is more formalized where students focus on reading, writing, listening, grammar, and vocabulary competencies. These core competencies are practiced through all curriculum areas.

Technology- Our Technology Curriculum is for Elementary students and is integrated with classroom academics. Students learn skills in both Apple and Microsoft software and how to safely and effectively use the internet.
